WHAT'S IN THE NAME?
ETHOS - The characteristic disposition of a culture, or community as manifested in its attitudes and aspirations.
RX - A recommendation that is authoritatively put forward.
WORK. WITH. PEOPLE.
"You can buy a person's time; you can buy his physical presence in a given place; you can even buy a measured number of his skilled muscular motions per hour. But you cannot buy enthusiasm. You cannot buy initiative. You cannot buy the devotion of hearts, minds and souls. You have to earn those things."
-- Clarence Francis

We all do it.
Since American business occurs between people by choice, it has a relationship component. Inside these relationships both workers and clients engage to create opportunity.
There are basic but important distinctions to consider and abide by. People can feel the difference between working for someone and working with someone. Clients can feel the difference between getting sold and being served.
Schedules and inventory can be managed, but people become engaged when they're effectively led and fulfilled. It's not rocket science, it's biology.
Some do it well.
Stockholm Syndrome shouldn't be a corporate retention strategy.
Too many people go to work everyday and describe the experience as if they're trapped in it. Despite being surrounded by colleagues on the same mission, they feel isolated and vulnerable.
We work in an era where it’s not uncommon to hear a shameless description of the “dog eat dog” nature of office environments and we accept the lie that “it’s just business”.
The recorded success of humanity on earth can be directly attributed to our singular ability to effectively collaborate for our own group's success.
So why aren't more corporate organizations today enjoying the same collective benefit and cultural fulfillment that our shared history has biologically wired us for? And most interestingly, what are the companies who are getting it right doing differently?
We can do better.
An expensive problem is being measured by the Gallup Organization's track of employee engagement. As of last August, 2017, their data shows that on average, more than 2/3rds of American workers are disengaged at work everyday. Their apathy is responsible for operational dysfunction that comes at a cost to everyone... employees, owners and their clients.
Though it's sometimes hard to see, everyone wants to work where they can feel useful and have a purpose. The disconnection and fear based control of so many work cultures can suppress it, or drive it out of people, but it’s always there and it re-emerges in the right environment.
If you want to increase your company's output, let's increase your team’s input, because you're already paying for it.
HOW DOES ETHOS RX HELP?
What you're aiming at will determine what lies ahead of you. Through this initial evaluative discussion step, we explore core values, organizational behavior and messaging. Together we create new operating models that, when effectively implemented, act like a rising tide for your people services, both employee and client facing.
Once a vision has been set in alignment with core values, it is time to prime your team for performance. An important part of building consensus is first conveying the distinction between challenges that result from willingness and ability. How well your team will perform is rooted in why they're working and it's critical that all parties be aware and aligned in that regard.
Organizational dysfunction is not always the result of managerial apathy or salesperson inability. Many times an unexplained cultural breakdown is due to limited communication about what's actually happening. This failure mode is the natural result of impeded objective data flow and the inevitable sample selection bias that results. A purpose driven framework that collects stable objective data replaces the chaos of subjective stories from disparate perspectives that preceded it.
WHO AM I?
Appreciate you asking...
I am a husband, dad, friend, volunteer, salesman, artist, teacher, student, writer, counselor, storyteller, and business owner. Which one I'm being just depends on who I'm in service to when you run across me.
At my core I'm engaged by the fascinating possibilities that are accessible when you connect relationships and creativity in the pursuit of a meaningful goal.
The tie that binds it all is that I love people, and I use money, in the midst of our modern culture that too often appears intent on using people for the love of money.
I'll be the first to say that my way isn't a fit for everyone. I've experienced that. Moreover, some people may read my perspectives above and make themselves dizzy rolling their eyes at my perceived misunderstanding of the harsh realities of modern business. I welcome that debate.
LET'S DISCUSS WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU.
